  • Copper `ring`.

After reading that copper is a good deterrant for slugs i thought of making a `ring` out of copper pipe to encircle my growbag. If any slug wants to get to my toms they have to cross the copper piping to reach them.

What do you think, good idea or not?

I don't have a problem with slugs eating my toms, however the do lurve marigolds!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

If they are hungry enough the slugs will climb up the glass and parascend from the roof onto your growbag.

That looks incredibly smart, and I can't see why it won't work - unless the foliage touches the glass making a bridge across.

Hopefully it will cancel out the marigolds that you have planted to attract them!

They'll come through the slats underneath and then up through the drainage holes

I don't think that there are drainage holes in the black grow bag tray.

The grow bag tray has no holes and the idea of marigolds was to keep the whitefly down, didn't think the slugs would be eyeing them up too.I cant win can i ?

                  Nope! Sorry slugs love 'em
I hope the copper pipe helps, it looks good anyway.
I'm afraid I gave in and put down organic slug pellets after they scoffed half of my seedlings, hmph.

Its just that i don't like the idea of pellets near the crops which i would eventually be eating and all that slime left behind.Bah.

                    Still,its worth a try i suppose.

I use the copper tape round pots with cut and come again and sluggy type plants like hostas. Never had a problem with the slugs/snails in those pots and if you look after it, the tape lasts for about 3 years.

I do like the idea of the copper pipe round the raised beds tho, mmmmmmmm, who do I know having work done on their batherooms, I feel some serious wombling coming on here
